Friday Flashback - Husker Du

Husker Du are yet another of those critically important bands whose musical influence far overshadowed their actual sales. Formed in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1979 as a hardcore punk band they grew more important with each release and before long were straining at the limitations of being pigeonholed as "just" a hardcore punk band. They never received much mainstream commercial success and broke up in 1987 however their influence is still felt today.

They were originally signed to SST Records and then to Warner Brothers after they had outgrown what SST could do for them. The band broke up mainly due to creative differences between Mould and Hart who split the songwriting and singing duties. All three continued on in other groups however Mould enjoyed the largest success when he formed the group Sugar in the early 90s.
