Notmovingpictures Episode 101: Huge Stack Of Ziines

After a long spell of spent, well, not doing much really, notmovingpictures returns. This time around I talk about my recent move to 1st shift after not having worked it since 1995. There is talk of zines, those I have read in the recent months (Chorrada, The Ken Chronicles, Hypno Video, For The Clerisy, Friday Night In West Ealing, Rut Zine, Something For Nothing, Huckleberry, Burn Collector and Loserdom get mentioned) and some I have yet to create.

One nice thing I've been told is that some of the zines I did last Summer will be reviewed in the next issue of Xerography Debt which is awesome because I love XD. You might hear something about free classes I am taking for the iPad and uh, yeah, that's about it.

Closing music: Guided By Voices - Downer

If You Choose Not To Decide You Still Have Made A Choice

The choices are, continue watching a movie that I’ve seen before or work on a project and actually get something creative done. For once I choose the latter. At some point before going to bed I should have the audio for two episodes of Ten For Tuesday done as well one for notmovingpictures. There is already an episode of Ten For Tuesday finished and ready to be uploaded and it will be the 1st one in over two months. For notmovingpictures it’s been even longer I think. Right now I’m just too lazy to look it up.

My stack of zines to read is almost finished, just a bit more including a forgotten one that I found buried underneath a stack of crap. Of course soon I’ll be sending out more or mine which hopefully will keep me on trading lists for those that I’ve found and like. There should be some reviews of the zines I did from earlier in the summer appearing in Xerography Debt soon. Who knows, that might lead me to more like-minded souls meandering in the world of zines.

Veteran’s Day will soon be here and that means there’s a very good chance I’ll eat myself into a food coma. To ensure this has a high likelihood of happening I’ve taken the day off from work. Look, if you’re going to do this thing then you might as well do it properly. Just think, five or six years ago I never would have gone for a single free meal. Now, I’m drawing up a plan of attack to maximize my intake of free food.

I just finished reading Burn Collector # 15 and next up is Loserdom # 24. Burn Collector was excellent. I’m typing this with the Bluetooth keyboard I purchased several months ago For my iPad and am just now getting around to using. That’s my modus operandi, go nuts thinking I just absolutely have to have something and then once I’ve acquired said object take months before actually using it.

Oh well, time to record.

Negative Lessons In Real Life

Earlier today while eating lunch my twelve year old was regaled me about his attempts with lucid dreaming. Let that sink in. He brought up the subject. Sometimes he surprises me in such wonderful ways. I’m glad he has an inquisitive mind and is willing to jump into any subject that interests him. He hasn’t been successful yet with the lucid dreaming. I’ve never had a lucid dream either but then again, I’ve never tried. So, yeah. I just hope he doesn’t retain any of the negative lessons that my wife and I have thrust upon him.

At the moment I’m typing this on my IPad in the Microsoft store at the mall, while waiting for the time to come for a class at the Apple store. I’m waiting here because my son wanted to play some games to kill the time. Originally the idea was to go to the Pop Con that is located at the other end of the mall. However when we approached the door we were asked if we were looking for the place to buy tickets. My response was “You have to buy tickets to go inside? When this guy affirmed that I just said “that’s stupid” and walked away.

I muttered to my son that it wasn’t going to happen, that I wouldn’t pay for the privilege of going inside to purchase anything, especially things that I don’t need. I mean, shouldn’t the idea be that you WANT foot traffic thereby increasing the potential for sales? That just show the times we live in, paying for the right to peruse and buy things I don’t need. Or maybe it’s just some old man complaining.

Of course we could have been sitting at home watching Rick and Morty together but one of those aforementioned negative lessons reared it’s ugly head and I just had to get out of the house. You would think after all these years I would recognize the signs that I was being drawn into an unnecessary argument and have the wherewithal to avoid it. But no. Not me, not today. There are things you cannot take back once you’ve uttered them.

No amount of apologies to my son can make up for what he was subjected to and sure, it’s a two way street, it takes two to tango (throw in your own time worn adage here) or whatever but still. I hate that he gets exposed to this negativity and don’t want him growing up to think that is the way people should act. Because it’s not and I told him so, for whatever that’s worth. Time for class.
