notmovingpictures Episode 072: Conversations With Gary

Not too long ago Gary and I were talking at the table after lunch and I decided I should be recording the conversation. First we discuss writing ideas, styles and projects before segueing into reading preferences and then Gary asked a question I couldn't answer. Hey, It's better than listening to me ramble on by myself, trust me.

notmovingpictures Episode 063: Vacation You Say?

So I lied, I wasn't able to sit down with my brother-in-law after all and it's another solo episode. Sue me. I'm at the point where I believe it'll happen when it's supposed to happen and not a minute before. In the meantime here's me talking about the resistance I've been feeling and Steven Pressfield and a sudden inspiration for me to write issue three of Exercising Demons. Eventually of course. Oh yeah, I went on vacation, lost my keys and cracked the screen on my phone twice. All true.

notmovingpictures Episode 062: Tough Guys

As I listened to a podcast interview of Kevin Cronin it made me realize that Hi Infidelity was the first full rock lp that I can remember owning so I talk about that and Mira Sorvino. Listen and you will understand why. Oh and the band whose name I couldn't remember was Survivor.

notmovingpictures Episode 025: Vacation Talk

This episode is a bit, well, lengthy. Okay, to be honest it's a conversation mainly about my family vacation. Tommy and I talk about almost everything we did like the daytrips to NYC and Atlantic City, buying vinyl records and talking about trying new things musically. It does get a bit wordy and kind of drags for a bit. I loathe doing a lot of editing to notmovingpictures but believe it or not I did do some. Really I like to pretty much present things as they are, warts and all. With that you have episode 25, you might want to skip this one.

This Is For A Certain Right Wing Propagandist

This Is For A Certain Right Wing Propagandist

You’ve got an automatic awesome response system
Queued up and ready for use at a moment’s notice
It comes in handy when you only follow what’s trending
Sleeping on life compared to the real world is much easier
Answering questions like a double talking beauty contestant
Little thought or sincerity required just open up and spew
Your gaping mouth delivers your vapid hate filled verbiage
Placing blame to your left with violent angry rhetoric
The plan must work your name is repeated ad nauseam
You know it’s just a practiced practical grab for attention
Now I’m bored with speaking about you without speaking your name
If I ignore your obvious irritating act will you do me a favor
Dry up and disappear let the wind blow away the dust
Of what remains of your pathetic offensive existence
Now that would be worth talking about....uh wait a minute.....

I found a music podcast that was comprised of various styles that I normally wouldn't listen to. But together they seemed to work rather well, at least for a while. As I listened I got the idea for this one. At first it seemed to be about a group of like minded people and it wasn't until I was about two thirds of the way into it that I realized it was about one particular person who has been in the news recently for some ridiculously incendiary comments, as is her norm. I won't mention her name, it's been said enough. She bugs me but I know it's all an act designed to draw attention by being as outlandish as she can be. The world is a poorer place for having her in it.

New Podcast Episode: notmovingpictures 017 - The Forgotten One

Oh my poor neglected podcast. It's hard to believe that the last episode uploaded was over three months ago but it's true. What's even harder to believe is that this episode was actually recorded on June 9th and has sat ever since. I had intended to upload it while I was on my Peruvian vacation but that didn't happen. As a matter of fact I was sure that while I was in Peru I would be able to record a ton of new stuff with lots of interesting people. That didn't happen either. Don't get me wrong, I met and spent time with those people but nothing ever got recorded. At least I can be assured that the next time I travel I'll be armed with experience, hopefully that will be enough. The good news is that the next episode is already recorded and it just needs to be edited. Once I get around to it.

As for episode 17, well Tommy and I talk about the process of writing a new set of lyrics that perhaps soon will be melded with music to form a new Alloy song. The title we came up with for this new opus is When I Get You Alone. We also discussed a disturbing trend in education in the U.S. where high schools have been withholding diplomas from graduates because of some idiotic rule supposedly broken during the graduation ceremony. Listen up for all the details and our pithy comments.

Opening song by Alloy - Live To See The Day
Closing song by The Nods - Raygun Sally
