New Song By Stationary Nomads - A Mind Is A Terrible Thing

I have a new song uploaded at bandcamp called A Mind Is A Terrible Thing which you can download for free or just stream it. It's a spoken word style vocal delivery and I had the idea for at least the last few years. Aaron had sent me some songs he had already recorded and one night as I listened to them over and over and over I realized that one had the perfect tempo and tone for my idea. I knew I had to bust my butt to come up with the words that would match the music. Thus did "A Mind" move from idea to reality.

If you're wondering how I first thought about this strange subject, well, there used to be a show called In Living Color that ran in the early 90s. It was where Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans and many others became very well known for their comedy. Daman Wayans had a character that would talk gibberish and it always seemed like he was making fun of people who would use big multi-syllabic words (see what I did there?) without actually knowing what they meant or how to properly use them in a ssentence.

I in turn thought it would make an interesting idea for someone to sing gibberish strung together for no good reason. So I did and now you can hear it. Ain't life grand?

My New Mini-Zine, Badly Drawn......On Purpose

I've been meaning to do this for a few weeks but sometimes I get in these moods where I don't take care of the things I need to and this happened during one of those moods. A few weeks back I (finally) completed my first ever mini-zine called Badly Drawn.....On Purpose. I dug out some old photos from the Warped Tour that I went to in 1998 in Pittsburgh. I then drew some of those pictures in ink because well, why not? They were never intended to really look all that much like the actual photos. Even if I wanted them to, come on, doing it with an ink pen would require far greater artistic talent than I possess. The idea was just to have fun with it.

At first I thought I'd do it as a one-off project but now I want to continue doing it and next up I'm going to try some drawings from pictures taken at some of the ska shows I went to in the latter part of the 90s. You know, when ska was supposed to be the next big thing the major labels ruined, but it never came to fruition. Instead they signed a bunch of bands that kinda sorta sounded ska-ish and the real ska never quite broke all the way through. What better way to document that period of time than with crappy drawings that virtually nobody will see? Am I right? Stay tuned, there's plenty more great ideas like that one swimming around in the mush that is called my brain.

You can get the results of my wonderful artistic vision locally at Holy Mountain for the extra low price of FREE! I'm sure there are plenty of copies left. If you can't or don't want to go to an actual record store here in Tulsa then you have bigger issues than I can help solve. However just let me know and I will happily mail as many copies to you as your little heart desires. Never let it be said that I didn't do my part to make humanity better. Usually I do that by not involving myself with humanity but sometimes I have to put myself out there on a limb, emotionally naked (not like that sicko, I said emotionally) for all to abuse. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Ten For Tuesday Episode 098

Like I said last time, I'm getting tired of naming the episodes so I won't until I feel like it's appropriate. This weeks features even more of the music and bands from last week. Basically it's a lot of 80s rock, roots and more. Just call it good and enjoy.

Beat Farmers - There She Goes
The Replacements - Left Of The Dial
The Call - Let The Day Begin
Miki Gonzales - Vamos A Tocache
Bodeans - Closer To Free
Phantom, Rocker and Slick - My Mistake
Brian Setzer - The Knife Feels Like Justice
Los Lobos - One Time One Night
The Del Fuegos - I Still Want You
Green On Red - Time Ain't Nothing

Ten For Tuesday is a podcast dedicated to playing the music I couldn't find anywhere else. The music I like varies from style to style, genre to genre and era to era. You will hear punk, ska, rock, Americana, metal, country, rockabilly and more from all over the world. It doesn't matter if it's a major label or indie as long as I like it then it gets played. The motto is Less Talk More Music which means you won't hear me waxing poetic for fifteen minutes between songs. At TFT its all about the music...and me of course.

Ten For Tuesday Epidode 097: I'm Growing Tired Of Naming The Episodes

I don't think the last episode tore up the airwaves so I'm going in a different direction while staying in the same decade. Number 96 was alright but this one, this one means a lot to me, so many good bands, so many good tunes, so many good memories listening to them.

X - Your Phones Off The Hook But You're Not
Jason & The Scorchers - White Lies
The Blasters - Marie Marie
The Fabulous Thunderbirds - Wrap It Up
Jim Carroll Band - Wicked Gravity
Dancing Hoods - Torn Away
Cruzados - Motorcycle Girl
The Romantics - One In A Million
The Long Ryders - You Don't Know What's Right, You Don't Know What's Wrong
Rank And File - Rank And File
